Located between the large island of Phuket and the Malacca coast of mainland Thailand, the Phi Phi islands are a paradise on Earth. The amazing seaside views, great beach parties and countless island hopping experiences on offer definitely made it one of my favourites destinations in Thailand. Then of course, there’s the USP: the cats!
Phi Phi is a cat lover’s wet dream, inhabited by thousands of little wild residents. Some can be spotted relaxing at their favourite go-to bar. Others are tight with local shopkeepers, and spend the day patiently waiting outside to receive their daily much. Some prefer to laze around on the beach and catch some sun. I did, too.
I’ve no idea how and why there are so many cats on Phi Phi. The south of the country is predominantly Muslim – over 80% so in the island’s population – and cats are revered animals in Islam. It could be linked, but I might be wrong: let’s face it, this isn’t an educational piece. Anyway, here are a few pictures from my cat safari in Phi Phi:
